Empowering independence across the Greater Kansas City area
Program Roadmap
A path to belonging, step by step.
Our 6-week journey is designed to bridge the gap between isolation and community, empowering adults with IDD to build lasting independence through immersive, real-world practice.

IMMERSION
Building the foundation of trust.
We begin by establishing a safe, welcoming space where every participant feels seen. Through guided group activities, we break down the walls of isolation, fostering the initial connections that turn a group of individuals into a supportive, cohesive community.

ADVOCACY
Finding your voice in the world.
Confidence grows when you know how to speak for yourself. We practice real-world scenarios—from ordering at a cafe to navigating public transit—equipping participants with the tools to advocate for their needs and safety in any environment.

LITERACY
Mastering the tools of independence.
Financial and digital literacy are the keys to self-directed living. We demystify budgeting, money management, and basic technology, ensuring that every participant has the practical knowledge to manage their daily affairs with pride and precision.

READINESS
Preparing for the path ahead.
We bridge the gap between potential and employment. Through resume building, mock interviews, and workplace etiquette training, we help participants identify their unique strengths and prepare to contribute meaningfully to the local workforce.

IMMERSION
Real-world application in action.
The highlight of our program: a hands-on field trip to JA BizTown. Here, participants step into a simulated city to apply everything they have learned, navigating roles, responsibilities, and community interactions in a safe, high-energy environment.

Building bridges, one chat at a time.
We facilitate real-world social practice in local cafes and public spaces. By navigating everyday interactions, participants gain the confidence to initiate conversations, build friendships, and feel truly at home in their own neighborhoods.

Confidence in every step taken.
Safety is the foundation of independence. Our workshops teach practical navigation skills, from crossing busy streets to identifying community resources, ensuring every participant can move through the city with security and self-assurance.

Mastering the tools of daily life.
From managing a personal budget to making informed purchases at the grocery store, we turn abstract financial concepts into tangible skills. Participants learn to handle money responsibly, fostering the autonomy needed for self-directed living.
